The writer started school in l910with teacher Harrison Villet of Hampton. who went orerseae in World War 1 as an officer or the Royal Fljing Corps and later became a minister of the United Church in
Western Canada.
All grades used slates instead of paper for much of
their school work. We played a peculiar brand of 1
ball with rules that did not exist anywhere else I suppose, in North America. Discipline was strict
. but fair and punishment very swift, although hardly‘
ever resented in the end, by the culprit.
In 1915, the school received a special award and was presented with a plaque for top honors in thsical
Drill, in competition with rural schools in Queen's
County.
Our teacher at that time was a robust woman of Irish
decent, who not only looked like a Sereeant Major,
