a legend even before his sorrowful end.‘

In the old ballad, (seme verses omitted here) which was composed shortly after his death, 'The Pony' tells the true story of his career.

"My name is Pony Racker and I'll not deny my name

My Mother was a Saladin mare forever known to fame. .

Reered by e kind and considerate master, Pony Backer was sold as a young horse, to a driving, ambitious, hardnhearted, native of DeSable named Andrew White.
