The interior of Old St. James’. The two tables of Commandments which hang on either side of the stained glass windows were presented by Hon. John Yeo and Captain Richards. The cabinets on the left were filled with books which were enjoyed by both young and old. The closed pulpit, altar, and communion rail are original.

Old St. James’ was used regularly until 1885. Three years earlier, the idea of building a new church had been presented. At the annual Easter meeting on April 10, 1882, it was

moved by Hon. John Yeo and seconded by Dr. Brine:

That it is not advisable to spend any money in repairing the old church, but rather build a new one, and that a committee of Three be appointed to procure plans and specifications of said new church, and prepare an estimate of the cost of the same, said committee to report at a subsequent meeting in this Church to be called at an early date. Thos. H. Pope, John Maynard, Jr., and Thos. Adams were appointed said committee.
