$ .25 for freight on books. Amounts of $2.58 and $2.88 are recorded for duty. In his 1904 report to the Diocesan Church Society, Rev. Henry Harper noted a generous donation: The thanks of the parish are due to Mr. Brenton H. Collins, of England, for a
very fine set (40 vols.) of Emily Holt’s Works for our Sunday School. These books were received just after the closing of Sunday School this year.
The two bookcases which housed the church’s well stocked library. The one on the left was built of pine boards in 1888. Total cost of materials was $2.41 and of labor $5.00. Samuel Cann was the carpenter.
The outstanding event of the year 1941 was the celebration of the 100th anniversary of Old St. James’. Rev. G.S. Tanton, the rector at that time, forwarded information on the
proceedings of the two days of activities to the Diocesan Church Society:
On August 27th a tablet was unveiled in the "Old Church" by Mr. Edmund Birch, the oldest parishioner. The Very Archdeacon Harrison dedicated the tablet and the Rev. Dr. H.H. Walsh, Rector of Christ Church, Dartmouth, N.S., — a son of the parish gave the address. After the service supper was served by the Ladies of the Parish.
