Events of significance have not been uncommon in the life of St. James’. A special visitor, Rev. F.D. Coggan, Archbishop of Canterbury, signed the guest book on Trinity Sunday, June 11, 1939.

One hundredth anniversary celebrations were held on September 15, 1985. A special centennial service in the church at 11:00 A.M. was followed by a memorial service in the cemetery. Flowers were placed on the graves of former rectors, Rev. Henry Harper and Rev. Leslie A. Dignan. Following the services, an hour of fellowship was shared in beautiful Old St. James’ where refreshments, including a birthday cake, were served.

Over the years, St. James’ has been blessed with the services of dedicated and talented organists including Mrs. Mary Birch, Mrs. Dot Maynard, Mrs. Ruby Newcombe, and Mrs. Enid Birch who currently fills the position. Enid began playing the church organ approximately seventy-three years ago, at the age of seventeen. During that time, there were very few interruptions in her service, rendering this a record difficult to equal. She was recognized for her contribution on April 26, 1981 at 140th anniversary celebrations. In 1989, Enid generously donated the organ now in use at St. James’. It replaced an electric organ which was presented to the church in 1963 by Miss Priscilla Gorrill. Her charitable gift was in memory of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gorrill.

Another parishioner recognized for dedicated service at 140th anniversary celebrations was Laurie Birch, long time custodian of both church and cemetery. A plaque placed near the

church exit was presented in his honor on July 26, 1981.
