St. JAMES’ WOMEN’S AUXILIARY
St. James’ Women’s Auxiliary was organized in 1914. A copy of the minutes of this
group’s organizational meeting follows:
A meeting of the ladies of St. James’ Church Port Hill was called for the purpose of organizing a W.A. in connection with their church. They met in the parlor of Rectory on 2nd July. The meeting was opened by all present repeating the W.A. prayer followed by prayer by Mrs.Bamford. Mrs. Bamford then proceeded to state object of meeting and in doing so shewed the need of a W.A. and the work
the society had done not only on P.E.I. but in other provinces. It was then unanimously decided that we form a W.A. Society. All present signified their intention of joining the society. So Society was organized with following members, Mrs.Bamford, Mrs. P.G. Ellis, Mrs. Ed Maynard, Mrs. Hugh Maynard, Mrs. John Maynard, Mrs. Henry Newcombe, Miss Folland, Miss Louisa Yeo, Miss Maude Maynard, Miss Mary Adams. Election of officers was then proceeded with. Mrs. Bamford and Miss Louisa Yeo were unanimously elected respecting president and vice-president. Sec. Treasurer Mrs. Henry Newcombe was elected. It was decided to hold next meeting in Northam at Mrs. Ed Maynard’s. Meeting was closed by prayer by Rev. Mr. Bamford.
