Interior of St. John’s

The first recorded baptism in Ellerslie was on October 19, 1898 when the following were christened: Elmer Berry, Russel Clark, and Lutie Hayes. The first recorded marriage in St. John’s Church was that of Robert Folland of Graham’s Road and Harriet Palmer of Lot ll. Rev. Henry Harper performed the ceremony on August 8, 1899. The second recorded marriage, also conducted by Rev. Henry Harper, was solemnized on June 13, 1900 between Patterson Hutchinson of Lot 16 and Barbara Ann Williams of Lot 12. The first recorded burial in St. John’s Cemetery was that of Barbara Williams, wife of John Williams of Bideford. She died on October 17, 1906 aged 70 years 6 months, and was buried on October 21, 1906. The second recorded burial was that of Uriah Williams of Tyne Valley. He died on September 13, 1907,

aged 79 years, and was buried two days later.

Over the years a number of people have served as organist of St. John’s. The following list was submitted by Mrs. Susan Ellis: Mrs. J.A. Ellis, Mrs. Luther Williams, Mrs. A.G. MacKinnon, Mrs. Kathleen (Ellis) Linkletter, Mrs. Elaine (Ellis) Jessop, and Mrs. Robert (Sandra) Williams.
