6. ST. ANDREW'S St. Andrew’s Anglican Church at Invemess, Lot 11, was built and opened for divine service in the year 1948. This ambitious project was financed by generous grants from the Diocese of Nova Scotia, substantial contributions from parishes and parish organizations on Prince Edward Island, many personal donations, and a large sum raised by the people of Invemess. One particular fund-raising event initiated by the congregation was a picnic and social in the summer of 1949. This endeavor realized a sum of $269.25. Many of the members of St. Andrew’s had previously attended St. Peter’s Church in Foxley River. It was felt that the building of a church at Invemess would better serve the needs of those parishioners who lived several miles from St. Peter’s. Thus it was that the first sod for the new mission church was turned on June 20th. By the end of the year the Rector of Port Hill Parish, Rev. L.A. Dignan, reported that the church was completed on the outside, and a floor had been laid on the inside. Seats and carpeting for the aisle and chancel were purchased by the congregation in 1950. Several donations were made to give the little mission some final touches. A chalice, paten, and cruets were provided by the Women’s Auxiliary of St.Mark’s, Kensington, while the congregation of St. John’s, Crapaud, donated a lectem. Two chairs were given by the Prince Edward Island Women’s Auxiliary. Mr. Stanley Hutchinson of McNeill’s Mills built and installed a beautiful pulpit. He donated his time for this project, using materials provided by St. James’ Women’s Auxiliary.
