The beautiful rectory of the Parish of Port Hill

Heat for the new home was provided by a coal-buming hot water furnace with radiators in every room. In addition there was a fireplace in the study and a range in the kitchen. The range was replaced in 1921 by a new Enterprise Monarch which was purchased at a cost of

$110.75 from Brace McKay, Ltd., Summerside. The committee in charge of building the new rectory was pleasantly surprised by a

donation of $2500. from Senator John Yeo. This generous gift enabled the congregation to

dispose of all construction debts. Parish records show that W.R. Maynard and W.P. Newcombe collected $114.75 from

adherents for the purpose of furnishing the dining room. Most donations ranged from one dollar to five dollars, with the Senior Women’s Auxiliary contributing the significant total of $19.00. The beautiful eight piece oak suite, purchased from the Summerside firm of Brace McKay Ltd.

at a cost of $95., is still in use today.

Rev. and Mrs. J.J. Bamford, the first residents of the new rectory, were delighted with

their new home. They were particularly pleased with the convenience of its proximity to St.

James’ Church.
