REV. GEORGE STAVERT TANTON 1940 1942

Rev. George Stavert Tanton, son of Jarvis Pope and Bessie Eleanor (Stavert) Tanton, was born in 1910 at Summerside, Prince Edward Island. He attended the local schools, Mount Allison Academy and University, and the University of King’s College in Halifax where he studied for the priesthood of the Anglican Church. While at King’s, he did lay reading in the Parishes of Conquerall Mills, Port Medway, and Emmanuel Church in North Dartmouth. During his college career he contributed a great deal of his time in various societies. Besides being active in sports as a member of the senior football squad and manager of the basketball team, he was President of the College Missionary Society, a member of the Students’ Council, and for two years Honorary Secretary of the Enacaenia Ball. He was a proud possessor of a King’s "K". An active leader in Young People’s work, Mr. Tanton was the first president of

the Diocesan Council of the Anglican Young People’s Association of Nova Scotia.
