Dear Friends,
The rector’s report is a way of looking back over the past year and recalling what we have accomplished, and also looking ahead to what we want to see our parish do in the future. Day by day we may wonder if anything is being done, but when we look at the whole picture we see we have been doing our part in serving our
Lord, and many people have been involved.
During this past year each meeting of our Parish Council has begun with a period of study. The first studies of 1990 were to examine our purpose as a parish, and after a few weeks of discussion we developed a "Parish Purpose" which is: "To know Christ and make him known through study, praise, example and fellowship, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit." It was agreed that all we do as a parish and as individual churches must fit into this purpose.
In January we assisted the Gamerat family. This family, refugees from Poland, was sponsored by the West Prince Christian Council and is settled in Alberton. This was a means of outreach for our parish. Another outreach project is our "Sharing Boxes", the contents of which is distributed to the less fortunate.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was marked by exchange of your rector with Rev. Ken Jones of the Bideford United Church charge. This experience was
praised by all congregations involved.
A Pre-Lent event was held Friday evening and Saturday morning and afternoon just before Lent, with the hope that each person would come to Lent with a new perspective and understanding of our faith. These sessions were led by Rev. Michael Collier of the Parish of New London.
Spring saw the completion of St. Peter’s Memorial Rooms. These rooms were dedicated by Archd. William Moore in April. This addition is a great asset to St. Peter’s Sunday School and other meetings.
Spring was also marked by an exciting visit in March from Scotty and Phyllis Clarke of St. Paul’s Church, Darien, Ct. This mission was very well attended and many lives were blessed by the visit of this couple.
Bishop Hatton was with us for Confirmation April 22, when five were confirmed. At this time we also had five members of our parish renew their confirmation vows, the first time our parish included this as part of the confirmation service. The Bishop also welcomed eight unconfirmed children, who had attended
communion classes.
Another big highlight for this past year was the Day of Enrichment, held the first Saturday of Advent. Everyone who attended spoke highly of the experience, and it is hoped to hold another such day the beginning of Lent. People have said "It
was indeed a Day of Enrichment."
