Originally these patterns of shingles were painted in different colors and must have looked quite striking. The current white paint reflects a change of taste that began to spread around the whole region shortly after the church was com¬ pleted. Perhaps someday the original colours, which must have been composed of warm earth tones, might be restored by the parishioners. 14
