The issues of the Pioneer for 1892 and 1893 are lost so fur¬ ther details are scarce. We do not know for sure if the main struc¬ ture was closed in before the winter but that was the usual practice to avoid damage from storms. The cross on the high spire was made by a local blacksmith, Peter Kinch , (but we don't know if anyone stood on his head on top of the spire (120 ft.) as had hap¬ pened at Tignish in 1861. The new church was probably in use in the winter of 1892-93 or, at least, the Spring of 1893. The vast expanse of wood finish for the interior must have required considerable time. But, by July, 1893, the just founded Tignish newspaper L'Impartial, in its July 23, edition tells us under the heading "Nouvelles de St. Louis :" The painting of the outside of the Church of Palmer Road continues under the experienced hand of Mr. Rocheford of Alberton and the interior work executed by Mr. Dunstan Martin of Tignish presents an admirable eyeful." And, on Oct. 5, 1893 in the same paper, again under "Nouvelles de St Louis is announced: The work at the church of continues with a great deal of activity.
