15 Jack Naddy In April, 1984, after the death of his wife Marion MacDonald , Jack Naddy left the property in Orwell he had purchased with his father and moved to Lake Verde to live with his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Ivan Redmond. He later returned to his home and until his death was cared for by a couple who lived there with him. He and his wife had raised seven daughters; six are still living. As he mentions in his account, theNaddys' second-oldest girl, Faustina, died in childbirth at 19, leaving an infant Faustina in her grandparents' care. He mentions, as well, that he and his wife took in Gloria Shaw as a playmate for the young Faustina. What he does not mention is that they also gave a home to another young girl, Linda, a few years later. Six of the ten women raised by the Naddy s, including Linda and Gloria, live in the Lake Verde / Vernon River area today. The others, including Faustina, live in or around Toronto . 1 built this house. I had carpenters to build it. The man that lived here previous to me, he had his house burnt and he didn't feel like building another one, so we bought - my father and I - the farm, and we worked it together. I lived with my father, and then, after three years, we built this house. I had the lumber all ready from the year before. When I got the place up, we got married. My wife just came from across the river over here, Doug Charlie's daughter. Family So, we raised a family of seven daughters. The first seven children we had, they were all girls, and then the eighth one was a boy. And we were so proud of the boy you know. Our son. He just lived, I think, three months. Jack Naddy 139
