woods.... Campbell worked a lot in the woods. We had a farm down the road here and he shipped a lot of cargoes then. The Farm A hundred and twelve acres. Of course, it was big enough when you did it with horses. This is the third tractor that Campbell had.... But, I was sorry when the horses went. I was very fond of horses. Yes, I did most of the chores on the farm. But you know, I liked it. I didn' t want to part with the last of it. There was things I loved to do in the house, but you didn' t have all that much time when you done the barn work. When there was horses and cows and sheep and hens, that took most of your day. At that time it was different. Nowadays, a lot of people don't feed their animals at noontime. But it was three times a day they were fed in those days. The only thing was, sometimes you'd get in mixups. The animals would get in mixups. But there was always somebody I could call on if I couldn't get out of a predicament myself. Sometimes there would be animals get loose or get hung up in some way. Or there would be a calf arriving. In the first years I was there, Campbell always raised the colts, raised the foals. I never wanted that foal to appear when I was at home by myself. But they always seemed to do very well. They arrived at their own time. There was no vets in those days. Oh, it was wonderful, the last years, when we had vets. And 1 really was very fond of Dr. Ings .11 don't know but some of the young vets are just as nice as he was. But he was a wonderful man. He'd come if it was at all possible. And in those days, roads weren't ploughed, you know, and it just wasn't all that easy.... But they saved many an animal, though, the vets did. Campbell himself, if he was home, he was very good with the cows.... They resorted to something. My Home I went to the States, I guess, when I was about 20. But I wasn't in the States very long. I mean, I'd never be a year at a time. We [children] came home, one about, and stayed with our father and mother. I went back and forth to the States, and then in 19271 came home and got married. Came to live here. It'll be 50 years this fall. Everyone thinks I shouldn't stay here alone. But, after all, it's my home. 1. Dr. A.E .
