the Orwell Corner site for ceilidh$,Canada Day Celebrations, and Strawberry fairs in their effort to continue: the spirit of the Orwell community of 1895. In 1985, a grant has been obtained to begin restoration of thechurch, the building whose preservation
began the whole operation.
In 1974, the marshes of the Orwell River were made into a wildlife sanctuary. Twenty landowners were involved (Eastern Graphic October 23, 1974). In 1984, a nature trail was laid out along the Orwell River by the P.E.I. Nature Trust so that the
“natural beauty of the area can be seen.
The history of Orwell, as of any community, is a story of change. However, in all times there are common elements. First there is the land itself. then families, occupations, churches, schools, organizations and community activities. As one member of the Orwell H.I. said recently about our history project. "Any days are 'the good ol' days“ when you live in them and enjoy them."
Orwell continues to enjoy good days.
