This species may he found in seruhhy second growths, woodland

borders. or even the lower trees of dense woods. lts nmremenls are rather slow and leisurely, and, like a t‘hickadee. it may so111eti111es be seen l11111uinql1ead downward while searchingr for food.

It is at times a rather persistent songster. and its peculiar song is not likely to be mistaken for that of any other \Varhler. As a rule, it: consi ts of the two drawled, wheezy notes su'fifi-r'hee : the first inhaled,
