The names of about 30 species from John Macoun's “Cata- logue of Canadian Plants”, were supplied 'by Prof. Adams; a few are taken from a paper by J. R. Churchill in Rhodom (Vol. 4, pp. 31-36, Feb. 1902); and others are taken from the well—known Gray’s New Manual of Botany (seventh edition) entitled “A' Handbook to the Flowering Plants and Ferns of the, Central United States and Adjacent Canada.” The scientiirc names of , plants are mostly in accordance with this Manual, while the popular
names are in the main taken from a similar handbook by Nathaniel L. Britton.
Plants which are not indigenous but have been mainly introduced through cultivation, are marked by an asterisk (*) Where any 1 doubt was felt as to the identity of a plant it was forwarded to ‘ the Division of Botany at Ottawa for determinatnon; such plants are indicated by a dagger sign (—f—) affixed.
Some species from MacSwain’s list, of doubtful occurrence because their range does not appear to extend so far north, or requiring comfirmation for other reasons, are included in a list at the end,
