much discussion and consideration it was agreed that with some up- dating the objectives as outlined in our constitution were still a firm foundation on which to build our Women’s Institute programmes.
At the request of a member of the legislature a survey was made to obtain the views of members on “Jury Duty for Women”. 132 branches returned the questionnaire and although it was far from unanimous, the majority was in favour.
In February 1966 the Provincial Board in co-operation with A.R.D.A. held a leadership seminar for the purpose of developing potential leaders. The two courses selected for indepth study were “Decision Making” and “Leadership Dilemma”. Keynote lectures were given by Mrs. Douglas MacFarlane, Guidance Counsellor at Athena Regional High School and Dr. Jean Halliday MacKay, Mr. Rudi Dallenback, Rural Development Officer and Executive Members of P.E.I. Women’s Institute were present to lend assistance. Each one attending took part in the discussions and in reporting on the study sessions. We welcomed as observers from New Brunswick, Miss Priscilla Mewha, Home Economics Director, Women’s Institute President Mrs. Harper Smith, Secretary - Mrs. MacAlpine and District Home Economist, Miss MacDonald.
A committee under chairman, Mrs. Frank Bagnall completed the RBI. portion of the Canadian Mosaic — later named a “Heritage of Canadian Handicrafts”.
In January, 1966 the Presidents of the various Women’s organizations in the province met to form a Provincial Women’s Com- mittee for Expo ’67.
As a Centennial Project of F.W.I.C. twelve chairs were presented to Fathers of Confederation Memorial Library (one for each province, one for Yukon, and one for North West Territories). Each provincial unit
paid $100. towards the project and was responsible for having Provincial Crest worked on a chair. Mrs. Daniel MacPherson did the work on P.E.I. chair.
June 25, 1966 was a memorable day as well over two hundred members of Nova Scotia Women’s Institutes were guests of the P.E.I. Women’s Institute for a picnic held in Northumberland Park.
During this year Acting Director Bertha Blanchard and the President organized a new Women’s Institute branch in St. Chrysostome.
Without a full time director it was necessary for board members to assume more responsibility, and this they did in a very efficient manner.
1966-67
In October, Acting Director Bertha Blanchard resigned, due to arrival of chosen daughter. Representatives of the Provincial Board met on several occasions with Minister of Agriculture regarding obtaining a Director for Women’s Work. At the time no qualified Home Economist
