MRS. DIXON’S TERM 1967-1969

1967 Convention was the first one-day convention held by Prince Edward Island WI. The past presidents were guests at the 70th An— niversary banquet celebrating the founding of Women’s Institutes in Stoney Creek, Ontario in 1897. A plate was sent to Scotland and a doll to Sweden to commemorate this event. The theme for the Convention was

“Women in a Changing World.” Guest speaker was. Mrs. W.A. Visivana- thon from India.

Canadian flags were given to the new Canadian citizens at the Citizenship granting ceremony.

Twenty copies of Heritage of Canadian Handcraft published in 1967 came to Prince Edward Island.

Six copies of “Anne of Green Gables” by Lucy Maud Montgomery and one copy of “Cradle of Confederation” by Lorne Callbeck were sent to Northern Canada.

Provincial Board members attended the FWIC Convention in Guelph, Ontario in June 1967. Later they attended Expo in Montreal. Mrs. Aroti Dutt, ACWW President, met with the delegates there and spoke to them.

The 1968 Convention theme was “This World of Ours.” Mrs. George Clarke, Newfoundland, FWIC President, was guest speaker. A tea was

held at the Charlottetown Motel in honor of Mrs. Clarke, Mrs. Phillip Matheson and Mrs. Ellen MacLean. Also in 1968, Mrs. Aroti Dutt, ACWW President visited this province in August. She was entertained at the homes of Mrs. Florence Matheson and Mrs. Inez Dixon.

In 1968 signs for communities and members homes with the In- stitute Crest and district name were erected in many areas.

A Women’s Institute seminar on the Status of Women was held and a brief presented to the Royal Commission.

Mrs. Leone Ross, Mrs. Inez Dixon and Mrs. Evelyn Machon at- tended ACWW Conference in Lansing, Michigan. Mrs. Florence Matheson was elected Area Vice-President for Canada.

Participation in the Lobster Carnival was begun in 1968. We helped finance 4-H leaders to go to Saskatchewan.

Two Leadership Seminars were held —- one in Summerside and one

in Charlottetown. Resource people were Dr. Waldron, Ellen MacLean and Rudi Dallenback.

New District Convention Areas were planned.

Prince Edward Island Women’s Institute joined the P.E.l. Council of Women which had Mrs. Helen Herring as its first President.

Two delegates attended a seminar on use and abuse of drugs.
