Two themes used during this period were “Duties and Develop- ment” and “Participation for Progress.” Three important resolutions were: (1) Women’s Rights in Public Office, (2) Minors and Widow’s Right of Inheritance, (3) expressed op- position to the proposed Amendments to Criminal Code Section, re: Impaired Driving. Dr. Thomas More, O.S.F. Holy Family College, Manitowac, Wisconsin, gave a very informative address at the District and Board Officers Training Workshop. Board members were guests of Rotary in January, 1971. Mrs. Florence Matheson was guest speaker and outlined the highlights of her work as Provincial and National President and Area-vice-president of A.C.W.W. A Committee began work on the new constitution and by-laws in May, 1971. In August, 1971, I attended the A.C.W.W. Conference at Oslo, Norway, and took an educational tour of England and Scotland in company with Leone Ross. A result of this tour was the introduction of Educational Kits prepared by the Conveners for use as program material by the local branches. I represented the Women’s Institute on Leadership Institute Council, Rural Development Council, and in 1973 was a member of P.E.I. Centennial Commission, and was first Chairman of the Advisory Council of the P.E.I. Environmental Control Commission. LEONE ROSS The theme chosen for this two year term was Action for Ad- vancement, a topic most appropriate for the many activities leading up to and culminating in our Diamond Jubilee. In October 1971, under the direction of the Leadership Institute, an intensive two day leadership seminar was held for the Board Members. Part of this time was devoted to planning for our Island’s Centennial Year. It was decided that the Women’s Institutes of Prince Edward Island would promote a Save Our History project that would document every school and church on Prince Edward Island by a black and white picture, a colored picture, a colored slide, and a brief history. A full description of this will be found under the article “Jubilee Year”. Meetings were being held in various areas to promote an Advisory Council on the Status of Women. Mrs. Helen Herring and Mrs. Leone Ross attended these as observers, later recommending to the Board that the Prince Edward Island Women’s Institutes become actively involved in the Council. Mrs. Herring was named to represent us as the council was being formulated.
