Studies were made on proposed changes in the Matrimonial Property Act and on Child Welfare Legislation. A brief was presented to Leonce Bernard MLA, chairman of Special Committee on Legislation on Bill 45, Family Law Reform Act.

A newly compiled Cookbook - “The Very Best Recipes” - went on sale February 1, 1978. Tested recipes came from Island wide mem-

bership. This book was prepared by a committee, Louise Marchbank, Kathy Anderson, Mary MacLean, and Mary Palmer.

The 65th Anniversary of Prince Edward Island Women’s Institutes under the Department of Agriculture was celebrated at the Annual Con- .vention, which was held on June 2, 1978 in Park Royal Church auditor- ium, when a birthday party was held at the close of the Convention. Guest speaker at this Convention was Mrs. Martha Bielish, FWIC pre- sident. She also took part in the birthday celebrations. Following the An- nual Convention (1978) an Alumni Association of former members of the Board was formed with Mary MacLean as Chairman of the Steering Committee.

In October 1977, Mary MacLean represented our province in Nairobi, Kenya at the Triennial A.C.W.W. Conference. When she return- ed she showed slides of that country and told us of her experiences at the Conference.

A newly adopted Constitution and By-Laws were made available in 1977.

Early in 1978 Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Vessey of York were recipients of the Institute of Agrologists Award. Nomination for this award was made by the Provincial Board of the Women’s Institutes and much material was gathered and presented to show the successful ef- forts of this farm couple.

Five new Institutes were formed in these years - 4 in 1978 and one in 1977, namely, North Winsloe, Hampton, Tryon, South Granville, and Rose Valley.

In 1978 the first cancer clinic was held. This followed a year of public cancer information meetings. Two clinics are in the planning stages for 1979.

In 1979 money was sent to India for the Dutt Memorial Fund and to help buy a new landrover for Lesotho.

A brief was sent to Dr. Clark, Department of Health, on Treatment and Prevention Services For Alcohol and Drug Addiction on Prince Edward Island.
