RADIO REPORT 1963-1978
During the years between 1963 and 1978, radio has continued to be the chief public relations medium of the Prince Edward Island Women’s Institute.
It has been an honour and privilege to have been able to continue as hostess, continuously since 1948. The 1978-79 season is my thirty-first consecutive year as Radio Convener and Emcee of the Women’s Institute Program. The program, with its interview format, retains it’s popularity and keeps the membership informed of coming events, programs and projects.
Many distinguished people have been program guests. Three In- ternational Presidents and Area Vice Presidents of A.C.W.W. have ex— tended greetings and imparted information.
National Presidents, during their visits to Prince Edward Island have been interviewed. During the National Convention in 1976, a series of programs were taped for later use, with guests from all parts of Canada.
Provincial Board Members, representing the various con- venerships keep Women’s Institute members advised of their programs. Government representatives and experts on various topics have con- tinued willingly to be guests on the radio program.
Since 1975, radio station CJRW in Summerside has aired the Women’s Institute Program each Monday afternoon. In October 1978, CHTN Radio Station, Charlottetown was added to the stations featuring the Women’s Institute Program. CFCY Radio Station, Charlottetown, has sponsored this program continuously since 1948 and continues to provide this public service each Monday Morning.
Since 1972-73 tapes are made in advance and for the past two years, these programs are taped at the Audio-Visual Department of Provincial Government.
During the years 1947-1978 radio has proved a popular method of disseminating information, announcing Institute activities, and providing an educational medium for Women’s Institute Members in Prince Edward Island.
