Planning had begun in 1971 when it was decided that our one big project would be Save Our History, a complete documentation in black and white, and colored pictures and slides of every church and school on Prince Edward Island. Every branch Institute was asked to participate in supplying the pictures, and the members of the executive, under the guidance of the committee members; Mrs. Helen Herring, Mrs. Leone Ross and Mrs. Beatrice Reeves, undertook to complete any missing documentation. The project was so tremendously successful that Mrs. Herring was able to fill albums with the snapshots and to compile the slides with commentaries into program material that could be used when and where required. On request, the whole display was mounted at Beaconsfield, Heritage Foundation Headquarters, for a month in 1973, during which time Mrs. Herring acted as hostess to explain the items and to answer questions.

Because of the enthusiasm, it was decided to extend the project to include a Community History. The excellent entries will provide very valuable reference material in years to come. The awards went to (1) Margate Women’s Institute, (2) Traveller’s Rest Women’s Institute and New Annan Women’s Institute; and (3) Marshfield Women’s Institute.

A Membership Drive for our Sixtieth Anniversary was won by (1) Augustine Cove Women’s Institute; (2) York Women’s Institute; and (3) York Point Women’s Institute, Bideford Women’s Institute and Lower Montague Women’s Institute, all tied for third place.
