MEADOWBANK WOMEN’S INSTITUTE 1963-1979 This Institute gives active support and sponsorship to Quilting Bees which are held annually at Shore Acres. They entertain neighboring Institutes by having special programs. They help finance playground equipment at Elliot River School and supplied cushions for the Music Room. On July 3, 1972, seven members were honored with Life Mem- berships. A nutritional project “Fun with Meals” was held at Shore Acres. Meadowbank Institute Members have shown originality and initiative in providing programs which benefit all women in their community. MORELL WOMEN’S INSTITUTE Morell W.I. Branch was organized in 1925 and Mrs. Maude Steele, a member of our first Executive is our President to-day (1978). Throughout the years we have supported all levels of Women’s In- stitute work, International, National, Provincial and Community. We worked with Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova through the Unitarian Service Committee, contributed to the Landrover for Lesotho Project and supported an adopted child. We have, through the years, served our Community in many ways, sponsored Youth Groups, arranged First Aid Courses, Home Nursing Courses, Swimming and Water Safety Classes, participated in Road Side Clean—up, assisted in Health Clinics and have made pur- chases for Morell Rink, the Library and W.l. Road Signs for the district. In 1969 our W.I. won first prize for Kings County in the Carol Lane Safety Contest, placed second in Provincial and given Honourable Mention in the National Safety Council in Chicago. For Centennial Year a Souvenir Quilt was made and a History of the Village written.
