WINSLOE-HARRINGTON WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
Winsloe-Harrington Women’s Institute (now Harrington) was first organized in cooperation with Winsloe July 5, 1913, The present Women’s Institute was organized November 14. 1921. Through the years
the community has won many prizes in the Rural Beautification Society Competition and in 1977 won the Provincial Award.
Since 1963 nine life memberships have been presented and in 1973 they celebrated their Diamond Jubilee. Also in 1973 as Centennial projects the History of Harrington was compiled and the Pioneer Cemetery in the community was restored. This branch subsidizes the Red Cross Swimming Lessons for the children in the area and en- tertains Senior Citizens at different occasions. It was due to the Women’s Institute that the Happy Gang Senior Citizen’s Group was organized.

MARY BAKER—AWARDS
One of Traveller’s Rest’s Women’s Institute members, Mary Baker, brought honor not only to herself but to the Women’s Institute and community when she won lst place on two successive occasions and honorable mention on the third in the Senator Carinne Wilson Citizenship Project - awarded through the Federated Women’s In- stitutes of Canada.
In 1964 Mary received the award - a Silver Rose Bowl for writing a play concerning Municipal Affairs - “May The Best Man Win”. The awards was presented to her at the National Convention at Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
In 1967 again Mary won with an historical story entitled - “The Path To Glory”. Addie Walker a delegate from District Convention 5(a) read this winning entry at the National Convention at Guelph, On- tario.
In 1970 Mary competed in the essay - “Challenge to Women in the Next Century” and won Honourable Mention when the winners were announced at the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada Convention at Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Mary Baker was Editor of the Institute News from January, 1969 until September 1973.
