Mrs. Florence Matheson F.W.I. C. President 1964-1967 The years 1964-1967 were filled with the planning and carrying out of centennial projects both nationally and provincially. We are very proud of our National projects: Our membership published a “History of Canadian Handicrafts’, each province contributing a chapter. A set of chairs was presented to Confederation Centre with the crest of each province and two territories worked in needlepoint on the back cushion, each province also contributing $100.00 to buy the chair. We participated in Women’s Institute Day at Expo ’67 following the National Convention at Guelph. To commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Women’s Institute and prior to 1967 Convention two maple trees were planted at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, one by Mrs. Dutt, President of A.C.W.W. and one by myself, each province adding a small amount of their native soil to my last spadeful. The first Convention for our Women’s Institute members in the North West Territories was held at Inuvik in 1966 at which I presided at all sessions during the week. UNESCO Gift Coupon #367, which was the raising of $20,000 by our membership was completed by 1967. This is to be used for our work in the North. As well as the special occasions, there were the regular duties of a National President - the visit to each province to attend and address a 69
