The Honourable W.J.P. MacMillan, M.D., F.A.C.S., LL.D., Premier of Prince Edward Island, extended the official welcome on the part of the Government, and Mr. B. Roy Holman, city Councillor, welcomed the delegates on behalf of the city of Charlottetown. Mrs. A.H. Rogers of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, responded to these greetings in a most charming manner.

“The Serenaders,” eight young ladies, delighted the meeting with a couple of tuneful part-songs beautifully rendered.

The Honourable Dr. MacMillan introduced the guest speaker of the evening, Dr. F.W. Patterson, President, Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia, who chose “The University and the Home” as the topic of his address.

A delightful feature of the programme was provided by Mrs. Lancefield’s recitation of a group of whimsical poems.

Mr. Raoul Reymond, a Swiss gentleman and the owner of possibly the largest privately owned fox ranch in the Island, charmed the audience with two songs splendidly rendered.

The meeting closed with the National Anthem.

At the joint session on Thursday afternoon Miss Bess Mc- Dermand, Superintendent of Women’s Institutes in Ontario, was the first speaker. She paid glowing tribute to Mary MacIsaac, a native of Charlottetown, for it was she who had the vision and the courage to launch the enterprise now known as the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada.

Miss McDermand’s address on “Pioneering, Past and Present” was an inspiration to every Women’s Institute woman who heard her.

A Peace Play followed. The central figure represented Canada guarded by Peace and Prosperity. The latter calls upon Canada to give thanks for the wealth which through labor has contributed to the establishment of happy homes and a contented people while Peace enjoins thanksgiving and calls upon the Dominion to lead her children in the paths of peace and to live worthy of her heritage. A herald calls upon the Provinces who present their gifts to the enrichment of the national life and various workmen, mechanics and scientists proffer offerings of their talents toward the development of greater efficiency.

The heralds summon children of other nations who may wish to share in the happiness, prosperity and peace of Canada and finally they call upon the Dominion to fulfill her high density in giving peace

and prosperity to all who toil within her borders.

Mrs. Lancefield expressed the thanks of the F.W.I.C. to the Women's Institutes of Prince Edward Island for their many kind- nesses.
