tries, over 300 constituent societies with 81/2 million women under the A.C.W.W. banner. The objectives remain the same “To promote and maintain friendly and helpful relations between the Countrywomen’s and Homemaker’s Association of all Nations and to give any possible help in their development. To promote the common interests of these organizations in the economic, social and cultural spheres, while avoiding political and sectarian questions of such a controversial nature. To encourage the formation of organizations working for such common interests in countries where this need has not already been met.” The Federated Women’s Institutes of Prince Edward Island, as a Constituent Society, has fully supported the work of A.C.W.W. We regularly contribute to “Pennies for Friendship,” this being the financial means of administering the work of the organization. In 1976 a special presentation of $1000.00 was made by P.E.I. to Mrs. Olive Farquharson, World President, when she was Guest Speaker at the opening of the Seventh National Convention of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada held in Charlottetown. Pennies for Friendship is an on-going support program and our way of assisting the International Organization but we also contribute to many special projects directed to helping the developing countries. To name some, Save the Sight (re-named the Nutrition Education Fund), UNESCO Gift Coupon Fund, Wells for Kenya, supplying sewing machines, Vans for Lesotho and assistance to Northern Canada. In 1969 with a grant from the Aberdeen Scholarship Fund a Seminar was held in the North West Territories and the Yukon co—sponsored by A.C.W.W. and the F.W.I.C. Our own Mrs. Florence Matheson, then A.C.W.W. Area Vice President for Canada, gave leadership in the planning and carrying out of the event. The co—sponsor, F.W.I.C., was represented by Mrs. Frances Clarke, President of F.W.I.C. at that time. Prince Edward Island was honoured to host two World Presidents in recent years, Mrs. Dutt of India and Mrs. Farquharson of England. Members of Women’s Organizations from around the world are welcome visitors to our Island and our members extend friendship and generous hospitality. The Letter Friend Exchange Program is on-going and this is done by both individuals and Branches, often times ending in personal meetings and group exchanges. The work of A.C.W.W. is a regular part of the F.W.I.C. Convention Program. A session is allotted for a, program featuring the work being done, new programs are introduced and there is an opportunity of meeting representatives of Constituent Societies. The A.C.W.W. Triennial Conference is another opportunity of meeting members of Constituent Societies and Prince Edward Island has been represented at all of the A.C.W.W. Triennial Conferences held from 1964-1979. The delegates attending have submitted personal reports as part of this his- tory. 81
