Previous to the conference, Mrs. Marchbank and I had booked into a tour which was hosted by the Norwegian societies. We travelled by bus through this picturesque country of mountains, fiords and deep valleys, staying at night in homes of members of our sister society, delighting in sampling their traditional dishes, revelling in the visits to their historic sites, listening attentively to their explanations of their methods in farming; absorbing information on their various education programs, their craft centres, their day care institutions. Like Ulysses, we were travelling with “hungry hearts” and minds, seeking to learn all we could to bring back and share with our own Institute members.

For a while we were brought near to the heart of things - the great world- wide organization of women dedicated to developing understanding and respect for other cultures and to bettering living conditions among our sisters in other lands.
