Rex Dawson preparing to feed his foxes. Myron Dawxon collection.

He became the General Manager of the Granite State Silver Black Fox Ranch in South Cornish, NH, in 1912 and bought breeding stock. He became well established in the industry, and taught the trade to his son, Rex, who returned to North Tryon in 1913—1914 and began to raise foxes on the home farm.l7

Interest in the community in this new industry led to the formation of the North Tryon Silver Black Fox Company. Michael C. Delaney was elected president of the company and Bert Dawson, who lived in the States but returned to the Island for extended visits, was secretary.18
