The Tryon River Watershed Cooperative Association was formed in November 1991 with the objectives being to carry on: 1) the maintenance and enhancement of the Tryon River Watershed for fish and wildlife; 2) the reduction of soil erosion through cooperation of landowners and the government; 3) the assessing of existing ponds on the watershed to explore the options for the future enhancement and management of these water bodies; 4) the creating of environmental awareness within the local commu¬ nity - particularly in regard to the watershed. The Association was successful in receiving a contribution under the U.I. Section 25 Job Creation Program in March, 1992, and with this assistance three technicians were hired. Two of the technicians walked the entire watershed collecting data and the third technician, John MacMillan , prepared a map of the watershed using the data collected to show where problems exist and what they are. John also wrote the Tryon River Watershed Management Plan. This plan includes background 112
