1928. A manse was built on the church property during his stay. This manse was sold and is being moved in 1992. The church was closed during the winter months after Dr. Genge left, and the congregation hosted visiting clergy and laymen during the summer months.
Miss Mary A. MacKenzie, Deaconess, came to North Tryon injune 1944. The Women’s Missionary Society and the Mission Band were reorganized, and the Vacation Bible School, Explorers, and the Young People’s Organization were started during her stay. Miss MacKenzie left North Tryon in May 1960 to accept a position as Deaconess at Large for the Island Presbytery.
The Presbyterian Sunday School was organized in 1820 by Walter Johnstone, a shoemaker from Dumfrieshire, Scotland. Mr. Johnstone travelled throughout Prince Edward Island establishing Sunday Schools where ever he settled. Lizzie Chisholm Lang kept the North Tryon Sunday School active during the winter months in the 19305, holding classes in her home. Marjorie Cameron Delaney became superinten- dent of the Sunday School when Miss MacKenzie was Deaconess at the church and Linda Harvey Hardy is superintendent in 1992. The Sunday School and Young People’s are still active and the Vacation Bible School boasted 132 children in the summer of 1992.
