divided between the brothers. Household furnishings were to be di— vided, the barn had to be cut in two and Bert was to pay his mother Susan a yearly stipend and be responsible for her care.

Newt chose the eastern side of the property which contained the race track, the house, the barn, and a large apple orchard. Bert built a house on the west side from lumber cut from the brook woods. The finish and the stairs were BC fir and the floors were hardwood from the maritimes. Half of the barn was moved from Newt’s property to Bert’s in 1919 and finished in 1920.

Bert had a dealership for American International Fann Machinery, so he built another barn for the storing of machinery parts. He sold hay loaders, hay mowers, cultivators and the first tractor that was ever sold on the Island, which he had shipped to Borden. Rex returned home to join his father in the fox business and assumed ownership of the business in 1937. Newt’s house was demolished, and Rex’s son, Myron,

lives in Bert’s house in 1992.
