Four Delaney brothers left their native land because of religious differencesjohn settled in Malpeque, PEI, one brother went to NS, one to the USA, and one to the Magdalen Islands. It appears thatjohn came to North Tryon and purchased land on the Mount Tryon road, as shown on the 1863 map.

Several newspaper clippings, including an obituary, give a glimpse into the life of Michael Delaney:
Mr. Delaney has recently purchased the general retail business of Lord 69’ Ca, Albany Station. This, along with his regular business at North Tryon, where he resides, gives him a much larger field for his enterprises. The advantages of havinga warehouse and other conveniences at a Railway Station cannot be overestimated. Mr. Delaney, when quite a young man, began farming on a small scale, but a fire burned all his buildings and left him practically penniless. This was his opportunity, and he was not slow to take advantage of it. He began merchandising in the most modest manner possible and has succeeded to a greater extent than ever anticipated, at the present time having two successful places of business as above referred to, besides being a member of the Provincial Legislature.
The funeral of the late Mr. M C. Delaney was held from his home in North Tryon to the Tryon Cemetery on Tuesday afternoon january 22nd. Revs. E.P. Calder and james Dougall conducted the services at the home and the grave. The high esteem and the general confidence the public placed in the late Mr. Delaney was highly exemplified by the largely attended funeral. So great was
