Irene Josephine Blackmore Wood, b. 1879, d. 26 July 1957, bur. Tryon Peoples Cem., daugh- ter of Joseph Black- more and Marjory Clark, Searletown. See Thomas and Wood his- tory. Edward and Irene had no children.
Owen and Margaret Sharkey in the 1881 census were members of the Catholic church and lived in Lot 27 with three children: EdwardJ., Solomon, and Catherine. Edward Sharkey was working with Douglas Wright, Bedeque, about 1890, hauling milk to the Bedeque factory. It was about this time that he moved to North Tryon and accepted employment with Edward Leard, a carpenter, who lived on the Cross- road. Edward was building the Tryon Methodist Church, and Edward Sharkey assisted him.
Edward Sharkey was a first class carpenter and wheelwright, and had worked at carpentry work about the country and in the sash and door factory for George Ives. After he retired from Ives’ Mill, Mr. Sharkey worked in his shop which occupied part of his barn, making and repairing windows, doors, wheels, in fact building or repairing just about anything anyone wished to have done. He could be depended upon to set and sharpen a saw properly or to put a good cutting edge on a pair of scissors for a lady.
Edward Sharkey was noted for very early morning strolls, and when asked why he walked so early in the day he said he liked to breathe in
