He kept mentally alert until just a short time before his death and loved to chat, telling of the changes that had taken place through the years. Victoria Sharkey was a fine craftslady and continued at her trade until her death in 1934. She spent many hours each day at her large loom which took up nearly half the kitchen, weaving long panels of cloth which would be made into homespun blankets. Children loved to sit and watch with fascination as her shuttle went flying back and forth humming a tune. Edward Sharkey outlived both his wives, and in later years was cared for by his niece, Emma Somers . Edward Sharkey , at 103, was the oldest resident to live in this district. He celebrated his 103rd. birthday on Aug 17, 1970, and passed away on Nov 13, 1970. Followingjohn's early death, his parents, who lived in Point Pleasant raised John's son, Edward, while Emily's parents raised the girls, Eulalie and Mabel.
