John b. Bideford, England, 1775, d. 4 Sept 1849, m. 20 Aug 1798 Elizabeth Leard, b. Ireland, 1765, d. 3July 1857, daughter of Samuel

John, who served in the garrison at Charlottetown as a Corporal in the Prince Edward Island Volunteers, moved to the Crossroad when he received his discharge. John left his farm to his son, William, on the condition that it should always be in the Thomas name. William left the

farm to his son, William, however, Williaer. had no boys to carry the Thomas name. Elizabeth’s obituary in the Islander of 17July 1857, reads: At Tryon on the 3rd. instant in the 93rd. year of her age, Elizabeth, relict of the late john Thomas. She emigrated to this Island with her parents about 90 yrs. ago from Belfast, Ireland. Her end was peace.

John Thomas and Elizabeth Leard had 7 children:

John b. 7June 1799, m. by bans published 24 Aug 1828 Amelia Gamble. They had no children.

Henry b. 1800, d. 1876, m. 24 Jan 1839 Mary Quigley.

George m. by license 1 May 1829 Sarah Crossman.

Elizabeth b. 1816, d. 8 Nov 1889, bur. Westmoreland Baptist Cem., m. 12 Aug 1841James Gamble, b. 1818, d. 1889.

Mary d. Oct 1885, bur. Westmoreland Baptist Cem., not married. In the 1881 census, Mary is a resident in the James Gamble house.

Samuel b. 18 Dec 1800, son of John Thomas and Elizabeth Leard, m. 1 Feb 1827 Mary Foy, b.c. 1804, d. 16 June 1883, daughter ofJohn F oy and Mary Polly Warren.

Samuel was a farmer in Augustine Cove and a member of the Tryon

Baptist Church.

Samuel Thomas and Mary Foy had 7 children:

Philip b. 1833, d. 29 Aug 1900, m. Rachael Lefurgey, b. 4 May 1832, d. 22June, bur. Lower Bedeque Cem., daughter of Cornelius Lefurgey and Elizabeth Matthews. They lived at Augustine Cove where Philip was a cordwainer or shoemaker. See Lefurgey family.

Nelson b.c. 1834, m. Maggie Bears, b.c. 1839. They lived at Augustine Cove where Nelson, a cooper by trade, manufactured cof- fins. They had 7 children.
