Thomas emigrated from England at the age of 18. He was employed in North Tryon at Gouldrup's Mill, then owned by John Lord . Thomas bought a mill near Crapaud on the Upper Westmoreland River in 1833 from Mr. Platts . This became known as Stordy's Mill.
