Luke b. 1841, d. 24Jan 1927, bur. Tryon Peoples Cem., son of Billy Wood and Margaret Enman, m. 30 March 1865 Janet Waite, b. Sher- brooke, PEI, 28 June 1835, d. 25 Oct 1885, bur. Tryon Peoples Cem., daughter of George Waite and Louisa Rayner.
Luke acquired 100 acres of land at Ives Point, Miscouche, on 16 March 1863. Nineteen years later he sold the land and acquired a 100 acre parcel at North Tryon. The transactions were a trade, all made in the one day. The former owner of the Luke Wood property in North Tryon was William MacWilliams. William wanted to fish rather than farm. Luke wanted to farm instead of fish, so they made a square trade and Luke and his family moved their possessions on Apr 19, 1882. Luke had cattle to be herded so it was a slow trip. When they arrived in North Tryon there was an old house and a small barn on the farm. They built a blacksmith shop to enable them to make tools, repair machinery, and shoe horses.
Luke’s son, George, assumed the responsibil- ity of the farming opera- tion as time went on. George had made his way to Boston in 1891, possibly in search of a Mount Tryon girl, Martha Hatley. Martha had grown up not far from the Wood farm and had gone to the _ _ USA to find work. it George and Martha
’ were married and re- turned to North Tryon. They moved into a new ell-shaped house built in 1893 by Alexander Large from timber on the farm. The old house was used for a wagon shed. Later George added a 30’ x 12’ exten- sion to the house. This addition was divided
