Certain spaces to be kept clean- in case of fires How marked out [23] By-law, forfeit ahd pay, on conviction, such a sum of money as shall be a reasonable satisfaction or compensation for the damage or injury committed by him or them. 2 I. On all occasions of fire, the side of the street nearest the fire, and for a distance of thirty yards on each side of the fire, and for two—thirds of the width of the street in front thereof, and also the centre of the street on both sides of the space above described, and also any lane or by-way between the public street and the rear of any premises on fire, or along which it may be necessary to run any portion of the fire apparatus, and also the premises or yard room immediately alongside or in the rear of the fire, shall be kept clear of all persons, save only the members ofthe Fire Department, inmates of the burning premises, Insurance Agents and such other persons as may be called on to assist or be employed at the fire by any of the Engineers of the Fire’Department of said city. 22. For the better marking the space re— quired 'to be kept clear as aforesaid, the said engineers shall. where practicable, and subject to the limits aforesaid, cause a stout rope to be run along the outside boundary of such full space, or so much thereof as shall by them be deemed to be sufficient, and every person, except as aforesaid, who shall be inside such enclosure, or in any of the places aforesaid, shall immediately retire therefrom when called upon to do so by any of the said engineers, or by any member of the Fire Department, or by any of the city police. 23.
