CAP. VI.

A By-law for Establishing a. Lock-up House for the City of Charlottetowu.

BE it enacted by the City Council of the City

of Charlottetown, as follows 1——

,. 1. It shall be the duty of the City Marshal and Police Constables to place rioters, drunk- ards, disorderly persons, and all criminals and offenders against the law who may have been arrested, in the lock-up, or place provided for the same in the City of Charlottetown, to be there kept until the next sitting of the City PoliCe Court of the Stipendiary Magistrate, when they shall be brought before the Court for examination ; provided always, that all prisoners

I committed for breach of the City By—laws

tendering good and sufficient bail shall, on executing a proper bail bond to the City Marshal, conditioned for their appearance at the then next sitting of the said Court, be discharged out of custody. '

2. The City Marshal shall provide prisoners so committed as aforesaid with sufficient food during such imprisonment, the cost of such food to be included in the ordinary costs on

conviction.

3. Females may be committed to the lock—up during the day, but must be sent to the City jail during the night, and at all times the jailor .of such jail shall receive into his custody all such prisoners as may be sent him by the City Marshal; the written order of the Marshal to accompany such prisoners.
