to cause such footway or sidewalk to be made safe by removing the ice, or by covering the same with ashes, sand, or other suitable sub- stance. And in case such owner, tenant, occupant, or caretaker shall neglect so to do for the space of two hours during the daytime, he shall forfeit and pay the sum of two dollars for every neglect, and a like sum of two dollars for every day such neglect shall be continued.

3. Every person who shall remove snow or Bum} of ice from off their premises and place the same snizwimdice on any of the streets, squares, or public wharves in the City of Charlottetown and Common, shall cause the same to be. broken up in small pieces and levelled down and evenly spread on such street, square, lane or wharf to the satis— faction of the City Surveyor or any police officer of the city, and any person depositing or causing to be deposited any snow or ice on the ice formed on the Harbor of Charlottetown, shall not deposit the same within a distance of twelve hundred feet from any shore line of said Harbor and also in no case within a distance of two hundred feet; fnom any bushed road or travelled track on the ice of the said Harbor. Any per- son contravening the provision of this section shall be liable to a penalty of two dollars for each offence.
