In 1959 a general election was called in P.E.I. Dr. L. George Dewar, the new Minister of Education, acted promptly on the Board's recommendation and the new school became a reality largely due to his efforts. The Board purchased a five acre property in O'Leary which was owned by Louise Ellis on . The cost was $4500. Keith Pickard was engaged as architect and tenders for the new school were called. The tender was awarded to County Construction. The first sod was turned by Premier Walter R . Shaw on June 18, 1960. Other offi¬ cials present were Robert Grindlay , M.L.A . for Second Prince; DR.
