The existence of the sawmill must have been of great assistance to the local settlers as it would provide a market for some of the timber they would have been felling in the clearing of land for farming. William Paul may have been the major customer of the sawmill in the early days and the existence of the mill would have greatly aided in the building of ships so rapidly. Moving sawn
material from the mill to the shipyard would have been very easy, just a few hundred yards down stream.
The Crosby mills contributed to the prosperity and commerce of the area for many years (see Chapter IV).
