The School Inspector's report of 1910 stated that a number of schools had no teachers because of the good wages being paid "out west" and many had left. While this didn't effect Bonshaw it may help explain the very short time most teachers stayed. Another reason may be that the school needed better teaching equipment as noted in the 1923 report (I)!

The school was originally built facing the river on what today is the site of Dr. McLeod's house (2). The building was moved before 1935 to the next property (3). After the move, the school was at right angles to the river and appeared this way in most of the school pictures. The original building was used until 1964 when it was replaced by the present building (now the community centre). According to a copy of the final bill from G. Keith Pickard, architect, the new school cost $28,397.37 (4). The new school closed its doors to students in 1983 and became the community centre shortly afterwards, replacing the courthouse which had served the purpose until its destruction a few years previously (5).
