It is interesting to note in one of the inspector's reports on the post office that in 1941 one of the measures for safeguarding the registered mail and Post Office valuables was to take the cash box to the bedroom! He also considered the mail bag key to be safe when tied by a string to the desk
(9)!
Although Alfred McPhail was made postmaster in 1954 he didn't like the job so the duties were performed until 1955 by his brother Cecil. After Cecil's marriage to Marion in 1955, Marion took over the duties and subsequently received the recognition for doing the job in 1973 when she became postmistress (24).
Since 1 859 the post office has been located in various buildings near the junction of the main Charlottetown-Borden road and the Argyle Shore road. It was either in the McNevin / Morrow / Beaton's store, Robertson's store, the Murchison house and lately the McPhail's store (10,2,11).
