BEATON'S HOTEL/ HOUSE In a photograph dated 1915 an extension was being added to the Beaton house. It was probably upon completion of this work that the building opened as a hotel. Jimmie Alexander Beaton was noted in the 1920 Atlas as being a merchant and hotel proprietor (22). In McAlpine's 1929/30 directory Mrs F. Beaton was listed as the hotel keeper (26). f!Ts.f'" The wing being built on the Beaton Hotel, 1915 courtesy of Annie Darrach The Hotel was operated until about 1935 when it was converted to a private home and the flat roofed wing, that was built in 1915, was converted into apartments. About 1950 the wing was removed from the building and taken to Cornwall where it was used as a house until the mid 1980's (21). Beaton 's Hotel circa 1920 courtesy of Beverly McPhail •48-
