On November 13th 195 8 Irving Oil purchased the site of the Ferguson store from Neil Ferguson (53). The service station was built shortly afterwards and the first operator was Weston Stretch in partnership with Jimmy McLeod (30). The service station has served the community under various operators ever since (29). HAVENGAS GARAGE Meindert Havenga operated the Irving Service Station between October 1967 and July 1973 and subsequently built his own garage to service his customers' needs. He has helped keep the automobiles and farm equipment of the village going from his own premises since January 1974 (63). •50-
