CHAPTER IV

INDUSTRIES LUMBERING

The first challenge that faced the early settlers was to clear land on which to plant their crops. The harvesting of trees has continued from that time to this and has formed the basis for a number of industries, in particular the sawmills. The forests also provided the fuel for the farms and

businesses.
